Can I mix gel-tek tetracycline antibiotic with fish food?

If you're new here, you may want to subscribe to my RSS feed. Thanks for visiting!

I’m treating my regal tang saltwater fish for columnaris. The bottle says use gel-tek as the only product offered to the fish when fed. My fish are picky and don’t even know that they are suppossed to eat the gel so, can I just use it as a food soak instead? Also wanted to know if anybody tried this with good results.

Yes you can. But remember tetracycline does not work very quickly. Like most antibiotics, they take time. Columnaris isn’t too serious as long as you treat it in it’s early stages. Do be persistent because that is the only way to beat it.

Actually this is one of the only ways to be effective with tetracycline as the molecule size is too large to pass through the gills of fish.
